To get better at playing your class you need to do a few things. The first thing is to become better at your own class and there is only one way of doing that - play it like you mean it. Log countless pugs until you know every trick that your class can do.
When you feel confident with your own class it is time to study! Boring but oh so necessary. Knowing your enemies techniques better than they do is key to getting an advantage. When faced with a Hunter that knows all of your spells it comes down to who can counter the other player best.
In raids you do well be very familiar with your class to the fullest but also what and the reason why the other classes are doing what they are doing. Communicating with to your class leader and most of all asking your class leader questions is a quick technique of getting to know your class to the fullest.
Most important in raiding is controlled temper and if you become good at that as a individual you will quickly advance in your guild ranks.
